The
only medieval Roman Catholic Church in Wiltshire is in line for
some tender loving care with the setting up of a Friends scheme.
A fund-raising mission to find £35,000 to pay for improvements
to St Mary's Church in Cricklade will be launched in the autumn
by the new priest Father Richard Barton.
"Like so many other people, I fell in love with St Mary's
on sight," said Fr Barton. "We really must |
preserve
it."
The part-Norman church, which is nearly 1,000 years old, has a
few structural problems. The first issues the Friends will be
targeting are re-pointing and subsidence, followed by improving
the heating system and installing running water.
A programme of fund raising events, such as concerts and fetes,
are being planned.
If anyone would like to

the Friends scheme, contact the chairman Tim Cheesman on 01285

August 6 St Mary's is holding a Tridentine Mass --- the Latin
Mass from the 1500s which was used before the change over to
English in 1970. The service will start at 7.30pm and will be
