Increased littering and vandalism in the porch during 2017 prompted The Friends to look at the possibility of installing porch gates.
Evidence of gates having previously been part of the porch was found and designs were drawn for new gates in keeping with those at the entrance to the churchyard.
After a presentation to Historic Churches (Southern) at Douai Abbey, approval was given and the gates were made and installed by local craftsmen.
The gates are another example of projects at St Mary's made possible by the generous support of individuals and local charities working in conjunction with The Friends.
